TRACY JOHNSON TWO FOR TWO AT I-90 SPEEDWAY

i90 | May 16, 2011 | Comments 0

by Steve Zwemke
HARTFORD, S.D. — Tracy Johnson won his second consecutive USRA B-Modified feature Saturday night at I-90 Speedway while handing a second place finish to a familiar foe.  Tyler Johnson had led much of the race until his brother Tracy caught up to him on the final lap.  It was a slide-job coming out of the final turn that sealed the deal for Tracy, a two-time B-Mod track champion.  Johnson’s march to the front originated from the fifth row.
The evening’s Hard Core Speed Shop IMCA 360 Sprint Car finale wasn’t quite as dramatic.  Ryan Bickett dominated on a dry slick race surface to earn his first I-90 Speedway win in almost three years.  Bickett led all 20 laps.  Dylan Peterson, who won Rapid Speedway’s HRA Wingless feature one night earlier, finished with an I-90 career best second place.
Meanwhile, IMCA Sprint Car drivers are looking forward to next Saturday’s Loren Barstad Memorial Race.  The feature pays $1200 to win and $200 to start.
Jesse Akkerman’s win in the Express Copy and Printing Late Model Street Stock division was well earned.  Akkerman took the lead from Cory Yeigh early in the race and then quashed challenges from Scott Borkowski, Eric Moser and Don Bickett.  Akkerman also received a generous $500 bonus from one of his sponsors – 5 Flags Auto Sales.
Travis Schreurs took a few jabs in victory lane after his hobby stock triumph.  Don Brady led the first 11 laps with Schreurs making several attempts at the lead.  Schreurs made the winning pass on the final lap.  The post-race kidding was the result of Schreurs’ disqualification one week ago which followed a premature celebration in victory lane.  This week’s win allowed him to take all kidding in stride.
Harley Bauman earned her second career win by taking the evening’s Fast Auto Wash Super Chargers A-Main.
