Kennedy Victorious On “Pink My Ride” Night

Hartford, S.D. — Dave Kennedy outraced Brad Haas on a restart with three laps remaining in taking the USRA B-Modified win on I-90 Speedway’s 5th Annual “Pink My Ride” night. Haas had been leading for seven laps until Kennedy slid underneath and past him in the second turn.
Several other drivers had a chance at winning the race including second place finisher Greg Roemen, Tyler Johnson, Justin Saathoff (more on him later), Brock Hess and Kenny Scholten, who led the first five laps, as there was plenty of shuffling going on near the front.
“Pink My Ride” has become one of I-90 Speedway’s most popular nights in recent years with the event being a fundraiser for the Children’s Miracle Network. B-Mod racers Tyler and Tracy Johnson started ”Pink My Ride” after watching their young cousin, Cylie Pastian, battle cancer.
Back to Justin Saathoff. After winning his heat and finishing third in the USRA B-Modified feature, Saathoff wheeled his IMCA 360 Sprint Car to victory lane. Saathoff led all 20 laps of the race which was run without a single caution. It was his first Hard Core Speed Shop 360 Sprint Car win at I-90 Speedway since 2005. Saathoff’s closest competitor was Kevin Flowers while a last lap pass put John Lambertz into third over Terry Chester.
Cory Yeigh won the battle which was the Express Copy and Printing Late Model Street Stock feature. Yeigh took the lead, which had changed on four consecutive laps, for good on lap 12. John Hoing led the first nine laps before giving it up to Matt Steuerwald. Hoing took it right back a lap later before Yeigh screamed to the front for good.
Saturday’s Hobby Stock feature was every bit as exciting even though it didn’t claim a single lead change. Zach Olivier survived outstanding efforts by a couple of I-90 Speedway’s top Hobby Stock drivers in Travis Schreurs and Don Brady. Schreurs, at one point, passed Olivier for the lead only to have the pass washed out by a yellow flag. Schreurs and Brady rode Olivier’s tail, side-by-side, all the way to the finish line. When it was over, Olivier had definitely earned his first career I-90 Speedway win.
Keith Johnson dominated the Fast Auto Wash Super Chargers feature and broke the young ladies’ hold on victory lane. Points leader Harley Bauman was runner-up.
