Natural Hat-Trick For Schreurs

HARTFORD, SD — Okay, so maybe a natural hat-trick is hockey terminology, but three in a row is a great accomplishment – even for a three-time defending track champion like Travis Schreurs. And that’s exactly what Schreurs did Saturday night at I-90 Speedway in winning his third straight Hobby Stock feature. Jason Mehlhaff led the first four laps but suffered an entirely ugly lap on a fifth lap restart. Schreurs took advantage of Mehlhaff’s error and never looked back in racing to his fourth I-90 Speedway win this season.
John Lambertz snuck by Mike Young with four laps remaining in the night’s Hard Core Speed Shop IMCA 360 Sprint Car feature. It was the first win for Lambertz at I-90 in almost four years. Young led the first 16 laps. Johnn Cressman may well have been on his way to a win. Cressman, who started twelfth, ran the high groove to second before going into a spin on the frontstretch. Cressman’s car was too damaged to continue after Randy Droescher was unable to avoid making contact.
Craig Hanisch was denied a second straight win in the Express Copy and Printing Late Model Street Stocks as his car slowed with two laps to go. Hanisch’s misfortune turned into Matt Steuerwald’s third feature win. Early race leader Eric Moser finished second while Jesse Akkermain gained thirteen positions, coming in third.
Kenny Scholten showed off his motor in the USRA B-Modified main event. Scholten led the last six laps of the 15 lap feature after passing Jeremiah Christensen. It was Scholten’s third visit to victory lane. Christensen had led since getting by Devon McMartin on the fourth circuit.
Harley Bauman earned her third Fast Auto Wash Super Chargers win. Laura Ebbesen led for the first half.
Next week’s races, sponsored by Express Copy and Printing, will be followed by a huge fireworks display.
Meanwhile, Saturday, July 9th, is now the date for I-90 Speedway’s Outlaw 360 Nationals featuring ASCS Midwest Series Sprint Cars and a $3000-to-win, $300-to-start finale.
