Brenden Blows Into Victory Lane at I-90

   Hartford, S.D. — “Hurricane” Lane Brenden stormed to victory lane for the first time in 2011 Saturday night at I-90 Speedway to win the Hard Core Speed Shop IMCA 360 Sprint Car feature.  Although Brock Dump was able to narrow the lead in lapped traffic, Brenden went mostly unchallenged after getting by Mike Young on the sixth lap.  Fifth place finisher John Lambertz was the race’s hard charger.  Lambertz gained twelve positions before the checkered flag was waved in a race that ran caution-free.

   Kenny Scholten dominated the 6th Annual Mod Madness.  Scholten was first in passing points after winning his heat in which he started last.  He then drew the second starting position at the intermission re-draw.  Scholten went untouched in the feature, leading all 15 laps.  This year’s Mod Madness featured topless USRA B-Modifieds and a $500 winner’s check.  A stout field of 28 cars entered the contest.

   Three different drivers led the Express Copy and Printing Late Model Street Stock main event.  Matt Steuerwald drove away from the field after grabbing the lead from Marshall Pater on the ninth lap.  Pater had taken the lead from Sam Johnson on the second lap.  With the win, Steuerwald became the division’s first repeat winner this season.

   Two rare red flags slowed the night’s Hobby Stock A Main.  Brian Hoing was okay after a violent flip off of the second turn on the opening lap.  On the second lap, Dylan Fitzpatrick’s ride erupted in flames after his transmission exploded, leaving small pieces along the front straightaway.  Fitzpatrick also exited his car okay.  After the cleanup, Travis Schreurs, Dustin Gulbrandson and Don Brady entered into a fun three-car battle.  Schreurs passed Gulbrandson with just two laps to go and earned his second win of the season.

   Jessica Brandt led all 10 laps of the Fast Auto Wash Super Chargers feature for her first career win.
