Borkowski Ends Four Year Drought

HARTFORD, SD — Veteran stock car driver Scott Borkowski put an end to an almost 49-month long winless streak at I-90 Speedway on Saturday night. Borkowski started on the pole and led all 15 laps of the Express Copy and Printing Late Model Street Stock A-Main. Extremely happy and a little overwhelmed, Borkowski said, “I heard him,” referring to his closest competitor Eric Moser, who got close to the lead several times late in the race. Moser’s second place finish was his seventh Top 5. Meanwhile, Matt Steuerwald now has a one point lead at the top of the division after finishing third.
Lapped traffic played a role in Ryan Bickett’s third Hard Core Speed Shop IMCA 360 Sprint Car victory. Bickett, who came from the fifth row, had high praise for the track after getting by Lane Brenden to lead the last two laps. Brenden got caught behind two slower cars running side-by-side as Bickett went by on the outside to take the lead. Brenden’s lead only lasted for two laps while Troy Schreurs led the first 16 laps.
B-Modified points leader Tracy Johnson scored his fourth USRA B-Modified feature win. Johnson secured the lead by passing Aaron Penning on the sixth lap. Johnson now has four consecutive Top 5 finishes after a terrble month of June in which motor issues attempted to derail his season.
A beautiful four-foot tall trophy sponsored by I-90 Speedway flagman Chuck Hanisch was presented to Mike Dahler after he led the entire Hobby Stock feature. The trophy served to remember three men who left a lasting impression at the Hartford track; former Hobby Stock racer Joe Hall, Dan Jensen crew member Mark Deneui and long-time fire and rescue official John Hall. The win was also significant for Dahler in that it was his first in I-90 Speedway’s Hobby Stock division.
Keith Johnson grabbed the lead from Laura Ebbesen on the third lap and motored on to his third Fast Auto Wash Super Chargers feature win.
