Brenden Rebounds for I-90 Speedway Win

HARTFORD, SD — Lane Brenden has experienced some of life’s highs and lows over the last two months. Shortly after getting married and winning his first feature of the season, his grandfather Pete Brenden, a man who was well known in the southeastern South Dakota racing community, passed away. The next three weeks would see Brenden finish no better than 16th at I-90 Speedway. Brenden started to turn things around with a respectable 11th place finish in last week’s stacked ASCS Midwest Regional Series event. Saturday night saw Brenden come full circle as he won his second Hard Core Speed Shop IMCA 360 Sprint Car A-Main. Brenden led the last 17 laps after inheriting the lead from pole-sitter Dustin Beenken when his right front wheel snapped off. Brock Dump gained six positions to finish second. Dump is now second to Dusty Ballenger in the point standings.
Brylee Gough led the first two laps of the Express Copy and Printing Late Model Street Stock feature before giving way to Matt Steuerwald. Steuerwald went mostly unchallenged after that while Marshall Pater made a strong showing in second. It was Steuerwald’s fourth win this year at Hartford.
Four wins can also be credited to Kenny Scholten after he dominated the night’s USRA B-Modified racing. Scholten started fourth and found the front immediately on his way to leading all 15 laps. Tracy Johnson took over the points lead after his second place finish. Johnson was the Performance One Hard Charger as he gained 11 positions on the track.
The Hobby Stocks continued to display some outstanding racing. Jordan Kott held the lead for nine laps after passing Zach Olivier but he fell just short of his first I-90 Speedway win. Travis Schreurs, who started in the back of the field, put a slider on Kott while coming out of the final turn to claim his sixth Hobby Stock win.
Tyler McFarland added his name to the list of drivers who have won at I-90 Speedway. McFarland looked impressive as he led all 10 laps of the Fast Auto Wash Super Chargers main event.
Sue Unzelman was the winner of the annual Powder Puff race. Unzelman won a 360 Sprint Car feature at I-90 Speedway just over 16 years ago.
