Wayne Johnson and Craig Hanisch Star at I-90

HARTFORD, SD — Wayne Johnson protected his ASCS Midwest Regional Series points lead by winning Saturday night’s stop at I-90 Speedway.  Johnson hugged the bottom of the track while staving off a constant challenge from Jason Johnson who ran the high side for most of the race.  Second place finisher Brady Bacon looked to be catching the eventual winner as the cars caught up to slower traffic late in the race, but a caution flag brought out by Eric Lutz with five laps to go put the advantage back in the hands of Wayne Johnson.  Johnson earned $3000 for his win and, in his post-race interview, thanked Sioux Falls driver Mitch Runge for sharing his knowledge of I-90 Speedway’s race surface.
Craig Hanisch captured his share of the spotlight by winning two features.  Hanisch got by his teammate Dave Kennedy to lead the last seven laps of the USRA B-Modified feature.  He followed that up by passing Jesse Akkerman on the fourth lap of the Express Copy and Printing Late Model Street Stock A-Main en route to his second win of the night.  After back-to-back wins fans cheered their approval as a drained and emotional Hanisch thanked his wife for her support and Tim Dann, builder of his Late Model Street Stock’s TDR Chassis.  Hanisch has taken that car to victory lane in three of the last four weeks.
The Hobby Stock feature displayed some exciting racing at the front of the field between Tim Waltner, Dustin Gulbrandson, Travis Schreurs and Don Brady Jr.  Strangely, however, only three cars finished the feature as Dustin Gulbrandson picked up his first win of the season.  Brian Hoing and Jim Baartman also survived the event which was filled with mechanical failures, flat tires and fender benders.
Harley Barman was credited with her fifth Fast Auto Wash Super Chargers win after Keith Johnson was disqualified for having illegal fuel.
