Four Straight For Ryan Bickett at I-90

by Steve Zwemke
HARTFORD, SD — Ryan Bickett’s upward march in the point standings continued Saturday night at I-90 Speedway.  The Ramona, South Dakota, driver won his fourth straight Hard Core Speed Shop IMCA 360 Sprint Car feature and fifth over the last six race nights.  Jordan Martens started on the pole and jumped out to a lengthy lead but by the time the race reached the halfway point Bickett was turning laps about six miles per hour quicker than the leader.  Bickett finally caught Martens on the 15th lap of the 20 lap event.  “A lot of guys try to start fast.  I want to end up fast,” Bickett commented on his car that got better as the feature progressed.
Points leader Dusty Ballenger now holds a slim two point lead over Brock Dump while Bickett has closed to within five points.
Cory Yeigh took to the high side to get by Don Bickett for his third Express Copy and Printing Late Model Street Stock win.  Bickett led the most laps while clinging to the bottom of the track while Yeigh’s car worked well wherever the Sioux Falls driver put it.  Jesse Akkerman more than doubled his points lead with a third place finish.  Akkerman now enjoys a 46-point lead over Eric Moser with three weeks left in the season.
Tracy Johnson has been one of the best drivers in the USRA B-Modified ranks over the past two months.  Johnson earned his seventh win at I-90 Speedway and fourth in the last five weeks.  He has a string of eight Top 5 finishes which includes five wins and two seconds.
Travis Schreurs lost the lead to Tim Waltner late in the Hobby Stock feature but managed to regain it on the final lap as Waltner lost his line.  Schreurs found victory lane for the eighth time this year.  The race was slow to get started as a pair of accidents took out Paul Hartley, Brian Hoing and Mark Barger before the first lap was completed.
I-90 Speedway’s Hobby Stock Nationals pays $500 to win on Saturday, August 27.  Shane Klassen is the defending champion.
Tyler McFarland experienced deja vu in the Fast Auto Wash Super Chargers A-Main.  McFarland jumped the cushion in the third corner of the final lap and gave up the lead to Keith Johnson who capitalized for his fourth win.  McFarland suffered similar fate just a week ago when Harley Bauman passed him on the final lap.
