Tyler Johnson Rides Cushion to I-90 Win

HARTFORD, SD — Tyler Johnson snatched victory away from his brother just before the white flag was displayed during Saturday night’s USRA B-Modified feature at I-90 Speedway. Johnson came from the fifth row, mostly using the cushion to get around the competition including points leader Tracy Johnson who had to settle for second. “If I can’t run the top I’d just as soon not be racing,” said Johnson after the exciting race which was led by four different drivers. The win was the second for Tyler Johnson at Hartford this year.
Ryan Bickett remained red hot with his fourth win in the last five weeks. Bickett passed Lane Brenden on the sixth lap of the Hard Core Speed Shop IMCA 360 Sprint Car feature en route to his fifth win of the season. Brock Dump crossed in second and Troy Schreurs, who has been driving Bickett’s backup car, scored his fourth consecutive Top 3 finish – a statistic that has only added to Bickett’s recent joy.
Craig Hanisch was back in victory lane in the Express Copy and Printing Late Model Street Stock division. Hanisch has won half of the races his number-45 machine has entered this year (eight). Hanisch checked out after getting by second place finisher John Hoing on the seventh lap. Jesse Akkerman’s third place finish allowed him to regain the top spot in the points.
An emotional Harley Bauman raced to her seventh Fast Auto Wash Super Chargers win. Bauman dedicated the race to her cousin who recently passed away. Bauman has wins in five of the last seven weeks of racing.
Dustin Gulbrandson fought off strong challenges from Tim Waltner and Travis Schreurs to win his second Hobby Stock feature. Gulbrandson led all 12 laps of the event.
The Little Guy Nationals takes place on Saturday, August 13. Late Model Street Stocks will race for $600 to win with added purse money. Drivers in that division will also be allowed to use top wings. Additionally, extra laps will be added to all four A-Mains.
