   HARTFORD, SD — Micah Schliemann earned his first win of 2013 after a good duel with Troy Schreurs in the Hard Core Speed Shop 360 Sprint Car main event at I-90 Speedway.  “It was really fun,” Schliemann said of wrestling with Schreurs for the lead through the first half of the race.  Schliemann started on the pole with Schreurs right behind him in the second row.  Schliemann’s lead lasted five laps before Schreurs and Dusty Ballenger caught up with him.  Schreurs shot through the middle of a three-wide battle for the lead and led the next two laps before Schliemann took the lead for good on the eighth lap.  With a slick track, Schliemann survived a couple of late race restarts to pull away for the win.  Ballenger was third and Robby Wolfgang fourth.  John Lambertz and Joe Riedel swapped fifth place over the last couple of laps with Lambertz finishing ahead of Riedel at race’s end.
   Travis Schreurs’ climb to the Express Copy and Printing Late Model Street Stock ranks has been outstanding to say the least.  Schreurs blasted past Craig Hanisch on the outside three laps into the 15 lap feature to give him his second win along with a runner-up in just three weeks of racing.  “I hate running the bottom with a passion but Craig was running pretty good down there so we threw it up top,” said Schreurs of his winning pass.  With his win, Schreurs broke a tie with Gary Brown Jr., for the points lead.  Hanisch finished ahead of Brown for second.  Aaron Penning was fourth in his first appearance this season.
   2010 track champion Cody Ahrendt had high praise for his crew for hitting on the setup at the end of the USRA B-Modified feature.  Ahrendt came from the third row for his first win of the season.  He passed Dustin Kruse midway though the race and then beat out the hard-charging 7E of Dennis Martin.  Don Brady Jr., looked good in leading the first five laps before becoming entangled in one of the feature’s cautions.  Dudley Schroeder Jr., remained consistent by scoring a third place finish to put him atop the point standings.  It was Schroeder’s third consecutive Top 5.
   Mike Chaney sped to a commanding Hobby Stock A-Main victory.  Chaney started outside pole and led every lap of the 12 lap feature.  Zach Olivier, who won the first two features this year, came from the fifth row to finish second.
   For the second straight week, the Fast Auto Wash Super Chargers A-Main was red flagged due to a violent wreck.  Zac Rose rolled his car between turns three and four on the opening lap.  Rose got out of the car okay.  When the green flag dropped again, Josh Lien took the lead, but only for a lap.  Dusty Seachris blew past Lien on the second lap and was on a rail for the remaining nine laps to earn his first career win at I-90 Speedway.  A happy Seachris said the winning car was Tammy Lingen’s 2012 Super Charger and that he didn’t change a thing.
   A total of 93 cars filled I-90 Speedway’s pits.  Kelly Miller was a surprise entry in the 360 Sprints as his team drove 20-hours from their home in Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada.
   The Central Vintage Racing Association will be special guests at I-90 Speedway for Memorial Day weekend racing.  They’ll have several vintage cars racing on Saturday in addition to all of the Paramount Racing Series classes.

   HARTFORD, SD — Jack Dover led all 25 laps of the 3rd annual Loren Barstad Memorial for Hard Core Speed Shop 360 Sprint Cars at I-90 Speedway, but Lee Grosz is the driver who will be remembered along with past winners Mitch Runge and Ryan Bickett.  Grosz worked his way up from 13th to an impressive third at the race’s end – a good night for any racer.  But his night would get better as the top finishers hit the scale.  Dover’s car crossed the scale first.  He was disqualified after three checks found his car too light.  Up next was front row starter Gregg Bakker.  His car was also too light.  As they say, the third time was the charm as Grosz’s 4j was the first of the top finishers to make weight.  In victory lane Grosz said his team decided to go heavy on fuel based on strong winds during the night.  As did Runge and Bickett, Grosz dedicated the win to Loren Barstad whom Grosz had met while racing in ASCS Northern Plains series events.  Due to the disqualifications handed to Dover and Bakker, Robby Wolfgang was scored in second with Eric Lutz in third.
   The 3rd annual Loren Barstad Memorial, presented by Automotive Services Incorporated, became a true full-night event this season as drivers raced for extra money to win in every division.
   Gary Brown Jr., earned $600 for his win in the Express Copy and Printing Late Model Street Stocks.  Brown came out on top in a three wide battle with Travis Schreurs and Craig Hanisch early in the race and then caught up with Cory Yeigh, passing him on the fifth lap.  Brown then carved out a perfect line for himself and rode the last 11 laps to victory.  Travis Schreurs got around Yeigh on the final lap for second.
   Mitch Van Engen was a convincing winner in the USRA B-Modified feature.  Van Engen, who has been an occasional visitor to I-90 Speedway, took control of the race after passing Tim Dann on the fourth lap.  Van Engen then went on to lap several cars en route to a commanding victory, his first ever at I-90 Speedway, which originated from the fifth row.  Harvey Vandeerd ran second.  Dave Kennedy, third, was the best of three Gary’s Tire Service entries.
   Four lead changes and some great racing between Tim Waltner and Zach Olivier highlighted the Hobby Stock A-Main.  Waltner took the lead from Dustin Gulbrandson on the second lap.  Waltner’s fellow fourth-row starter, Zach Olivier, got around him on lap 8 after the two battled door-to-door.  Waltner again led at lap 10 but Olivier regained the lead and took the checkered flag to win the 12 lap event giving him two wins in two nights of racing.  Gulbrandson finished third and Dusty Van Der Brink, who also challenged for the lead early, finished a strong fourth.
   2012 Fast Auto Wash Super Chargers champion Laura Ebbesen returned to I-90 Speedway with a win.  Donna Bumann led the first two laps before being passed by Joe Blake.  With three laps to go, Bumann’s car got high in the third turn and then rolled several times after catching the top of the track.  Bumann was okay.  However, when the caution light came back on, Blake was unable to get his car rolling.  He was sent to the rear of the field after requiring a push.  The penalty put Josh Lien in the lead but that would only last a lap as Laura Ebbesen powerd by him for her 11th career win at I-90 Speedway.
   Kids Night is on the schedule for next Saturday with free race car rides for kids prior to pre-race ceremonies.

   HARTFORD, S.D. – Automotive Services, Inc., presents the 3rd annual Loren Barstad Memorial this Saturday night at I-90 Speedway in Hartford, South Dakota.  A great field of 360 Sprint Cars is expected to race for the $1500 top prize.  The main event features a $10,000 purse. 

   The winner’s checks have also been increased for this weekend.  The Express Copy and Printing Street Stock feature will pay $600 to win.  The USRA B-Modified winner’s share has been bumped up to $350.  Hobby Stocks will race for a top prize of $225.

   Loren Barstad was a fan of all types of racing and the organizers of the 3rd annual Barstad Memorial want to celebrate Loren’s life and love for racing by involving all divisions this season.

   T-shirts and hoodies commemorating the 3rd annual Loren Barstad Memorial are available at I-90 Speedway this Saturday.  T-shirts cost $15 and hoodies are $30 each.  Purchase yours early before your size runs out!  All proceeds from the clothing sales go directly into the $10,000 purse to help fund the enhanced payout for Hard Core Speed Shop 360 Sprint Cars.
