Schulz takes fifth in his season opener!

The air was cold and the racing was hot! That was the story of the night for Sioux Falls native Eric “Ricochet” Schulz. The season started for Schulz at I-90 Speedway in Hartford SD this last Saturday night. “The new Schnee Chassis worked great after some fine tuning following hot laps!” a pleased Schulz stated. Starting on the inside second row of the first heat Eric quickly gained the lead and had to defend it right away. While racing hard Schulz got tangled with another competitor which bent Schulz’ left front rim ripping the tire right off the bead, “After the car returned to earth, I stabbed the gas and instantly knew something was wrong with the left front. So I kept the car gassed up and cocked sideways in an attempt to keep that wheel off the ground.” Explained Eric, that attempt worked, with the crippled wheel dangling of the ground Schulz brought the number 4 Hair Graphix sprinter to a solid 3rd place for the heat.
With the tire changed Schulz and the crew lined the car up for the feature, and after a great re-draw by Dick Schulz, father to Eric, they started on the poll. “It didn’t take long to see that we were to lose for a track that was starting to slick off more than we expected,” Eric reported, “but I just tried to be smooth and constant with car.” You could throw a blanket over the top five for most of the night, and after 15 laps of flag to flag racing Schulz took the checkers in fifth place! “ It’s a good start to the season, we learned a lot about the car, and gained some valuable seat time. Plus any night you can roll your car on the trailer is a good night, and a top five is nothing to complain about.”
Eric will take his Papik motors, Jack Egge Automatic Transmission Service sprinter to Rapid Speedway next Friday the 14th as the track in Rock Rapids IA kicks off their season with a regular show plus 410 winged sprints. We here at Ricochet racing are hoping to see all of you next week, be sure to come done to the pits after the races to check out all of the action. Be sure to follow Eric and the crew on www.ericschulzracing.com all year long.
