Voss scores first at I-90 Speedway, Gulbrandson claims win by 0.002

Saturday night's feature program opened with a historic close finish and ended with a driver taking his first win at the track. In between, two drivers broke dry spells dating back to 2015.

Casey Abbas showed the way in the first half of Saturday night’s main event at I-90 Speedway. Abbas charged out to the lead at the drop of the green, but had Ryan Voss stalking him as they entered lap traffic.

At the halfway point of the Cressman Sanitation IMCA sprint feature, Voss charged to the inside line to overtake the top spot. He would no relinquish the lead in the second have of the event as he took him his first trophy from I-90 Speedway. Dusty Ballenger made a move on the final lap to snag second ahead of Abbas. Trefer Waller and Christopher Thram completed the top five.

The race was red flagged before a lap was counted with Bryan Park and Nate Barger banged together in turn two. The end result was both cars going pit-side via a tow truck. Barger’s car was upside down in the incident. Both drivers were unharmed.

Billy Prouty got his first win of the year, and third of his career by leading all 18 laps of the T&R Contracting Late Model Street Stock feature. Dan Jensen, Tim Dann, John Hoing and Matt Steuerwald completed the top five.

Steuerwald salvaged the top five run after a trip to the work area on the first lap of the feature. The crew replaced a flat tire and the Madison, South Dakota, driver was able to restart in the back of the field.

Kevin Joachim showed the way the entire 15 lap distance of the Great Western Bank USRA B-Modified feature event. It was the fifth career win at I-90 Speedway for the driver of the Countyside Autobody #27. Dave Kennedy was able to pull alongside the leader but was never able to gain the top spot. Kennedy started in the sixth row but had to settle for second. Miah Christensen was third after starting in row seven. Derek VanVeldhuizen charged from tenth to fourth ahead of Damien Vandenberg in fifth.

It was one for the record book in the www.LawnSnow.com USRA Hobby Stocks. The race had four different leaders and the interval between first and second was the closest finish in I-90 Speedway history. Dustin Gulbrandson took the win by 0.002 over Tyler Schlumbohm.

Schlumbohm led laps 9-11 after Landon Krohn led laps 2-8. Krohn would place third ahead of Tracy Halouska and Logan Fitzpatrick, who was filling in for Marty Halouska.
