Spielman, Amdahl take I-90 Speedway sprint car wins

On a night that would host seven feature events, several familiar names and new faces went to victory lane at I-90 Speedway. All four divisions would run a complete show, plus the Cressman Sanitation IMCA Sprint Cars, T&R Contracting Late Model Street Stocks and Great Western Bank USRA B-Modifieds had to run their feature events that were rained out the previous week.

The first Cressman Sanitation IMCA Sprint Car feature had a $500 bonus up from grabs from Meyer Truck & Trailer. In that race Darin Spielman looked to have in well in hand for his first career win, but a radiator hose blew off the #32 car in the final corner. With water spraying everywhere, Spielman kept his right foot in the gas and drove to the victory. Dusty Ballenger was second with Micah Slendy third. Jared Janssen and Chayden Carpenter were in the top five.

In the second feature event for the division, another $500 bonus was up for the winner – this time from Cressman Sanitation and A&B Auto. Elliot Amdahl charged hard from row nine to take over the lead on the fifteenth circuit. Amdahl would go on the win – his fourth of the year at I-90 Speedway. Slendy led the opening 14 laps and placed second ahead of Ryan Voss. Ballenger was fourth and Trefer Waller was fifth.

Another first-time winner was crowned in the T&R Contracting Late Model Street Stocks. Ron Howe led the distance in the opening feature for the division. In the second feature of the night, Brylee Gough – the defending track champion – raced from sixth to the victory, the second for him this year.

Tyler Myers was the star of the show in the Great Western Bank USRA B-Modifieds. The Alexandria, South Dakota, driver raced from eleventh to the win in the first feature for the class. It was the same starting position and result in the second feature. The wins are the fourth and fifth on the season for the driver of the #27.

A last lap pass made the difference in the LawnSnow.com USRA Hobby Stock feature. The exciting finish was set up by a three-wide race for the lead with Tyler Schlumbohm, Logan Fitzpatrick and Dustin Gulbrandson. After that fight settled, the battle was on between Schlumbohm – the leader – and second running Gulbrandson. Gulbrandson made a charge on the high side in turn two of the white-flag lap. To counter, Schlumbohm drove deep into turn three, but Gulbrandson was ready, made the cross-over move in turn four and raced to his eighth trophy of the season at I-90 Speedway.
