First-time winners top championship night at I-90 Speedway

Tyler McDonald would end the night in victory late at I-90 Speedway as the winner with the RepairableVehicles.com Tri-State Late Model Series. It was the first career win for the Huron, South Dakota, driver with the tour and his first at I-90 Speedway. Renn Weber also took his first win ever at I-90 Speedway with the Cressman Sanitation IMCA Sprint Cars. John Hoing got his first win of the year in the T&R Contracting Late Model Street Stocks. Levi VanderWeide was also part of the first-time winner club taking top honors in the LawnSnow.com Hobby Stocks. Dave Kennedy took home the hardware in the Great Western Bank USRA B-Modifieds.

The championship hunt was also on the line for the speedway points and RepairableVehicles.com Tri-State Late Model Series. Blair Nothdurft got his first championship in the late models. In the IMCA sprints, Trefer Waller took home the title. The Late Model Street stock champion is Zach Olivier. Tyler Myers took top B-mod honors and Dustin Gulbrandson secured his third consecutive title at the speedway.

While McDonald led every lap of the H&H Mobile Homes feature event, the action was intense behind him. Justin Boomsma placed in the second position with hard charger Nick Behenhof taking third after starting outside row seven.

Weber was out front for all 20 circuits in the sprint feature, but Elliot Amdahl raced from position twelve to the runner-up spot. Ryan Voss took third and secured the second position in points.

There was a tense moment late in the event for point leading Waller. As two cars spun in turn two, they made contact and sent Waller airborne. The Nebraska driver was able to land the car and place well enough to take the title.

For Hoing, it was his first win since 2015 at I-90 Speedway. Behind him, Zach Olivier was on a mission to take the championship with a visit to victory lane. However, a mechanical failure late in the event ended that hope after taking over second place.

Myers had a dramatic night to get the title. He was involved in an early altercation that sent his 27 to the work area. However, he would not be denied and charged back to finish just behind Kennedy. Kennedy took over the lead from Jed Regnier on lap 7.

Eight was the lucky number for Levi VanderWeide. That is his car number, was his starting position, and the lap the he took over the lead. To make that first win even more special, Rick VanderWeide, Levi’s dad, made some big moves at the end of the race to take second.
